Grants for Nonprofits – A Realistic Example of Government Funding
The Department of Health and Human Services numerous grants for non profits to improve the conditions of low-income American and communities across the nation. Many of these grants focus on improving the processes through which government assistance is delivered. An example of this type of government funding designed to demonstrate process improvement and establish model to replicate across communities is a series of grants offered by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) designed to support model programs which will construct and deliver practical and cutting-edge projects in the area of benefits enrollment coordination outreach and assistance. In 2010 ACF was to award as many as five one year grants of up to $350,000 to nonprofit organizations to undertake demonstration projects. The grants which are administered through the Office of Community Services within ACF are designed for grantees to demonstrate proficiency in three key functions: The use of existing community service facilities for the benefits enrollment coordination process for members of the community not currently being served effectively. Using a combination of technology and personnel expertise to effectively determine eligibility of individuals and families for services and benefits multiple governmental agencies. Implementing procedures for strengthening and maintaining collaboration between community nonprofit organizations and government entities for benefits determination and eligibility.
